We are fortunate to have both endangered Hawksbill and Green Turtles using the beach at Pemba Lodge for their nesting sites. These beautiful creatures lay their eggs in nests on our pristine beach before heading back out to sea. After a period of two months the hatchlings are born.
At Pemba Lodge, the favorite activity is relaxing and doing nothing! However, there are quite a few activities for you to enjoy around the lodge and the island; they are designed to get you as close as possible to Shamiani’s natural treasures without disturbing them. Such as kayaking, reef walks, trekking along bush trails, snorkelling and diving, traditional line fishing and deep sea fishing, birdwatching or just sit and enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset we have and gaze at the amazing sky, which at night magically come alive with stars and planets not normally viewed.
Meals at Pemba Lodge are predominantly seafood based, and depend on what the local fishermen have caught that day.
Pemba Lodge consists of only five spacious, rustic and comfortable bungalows, set along a picture perfect Indian Ocean beach. Despite its remoteness, our guests are treated to all the essential luxuries: rainwater showers, big, comfortable beds with mosquito nets, solar powered lighting, wholesome and tasty Swahili fusion meals, a well-stocked bar, warm and personal service – and all of that amidst a stunning, unspoilt environment.
